Death Valley National Park, CA

Finally getting around to posting the photographs from our trip to Death Valley National Park last year in March. DP NP has one of the most unique landscapes I have had the chance to visit. The landscape in Death Valley and the surrounding areas include everything from a valley below sea level at Badwater Basin to snow covered mountain peaks, from sand dunes to flat lands, from canyons to craters, from colorful hills at Zabriskie point to castle's in the middle of nowhere.

Starting with the photograph of Sand Dues at Mesquite Flats below, I will be adding more photo's to this blog post over the next few days.

Alaska - The Last Frontier

Devils Golf Course - Death Valley, CA

The Devil's Golf Course is a large salt pan on the floor of Death Valley, located in the Mojave Desert within Death Valley National Park.

Anza Borrego Milky Way - Borrego Springs, CA

December is not the best time to capture Milky Way in the northern hemisphere as the central, more dense, part of the galaxy is not visible. Here is an image with part of Milky Way above the small town of Borrego Springs in California.

The Slot - Anza Borrego Desert State Park - Borrego Springs, CA

The Slot Canyon hike in Anza Borrego Desert State Park is different than most of your regular hikes. This hike takes you through a very narrow canyon with walls rising high on either side. This picture was taken at sunset during our visit back in December 2013.

Painted with Light - Anza Borrego State Park - Borrego Springs, CA

The night sky in Anza Borrego State Park is perfect for stargazing. This picture was taken in December 2013 on a clear winter night about an hour after sunset. We were couple miles off road close to the Slot Canyon in the dark of the night with no lights around us. I setup the camera on a tripod with a 30sec exposure and used the mobile phone flash to 'light paint' the foreground. The tiny hills in the foreground were lit up by the headlights of another car that was off-roading some distance away and provided just enough light.

McWay Falls - Big Sur, CA

McWay Falls is an 80-foot waterfall located in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park that flows year-round. This picture was taken back in November over the Thanksgiving weekend during our day trip to Big Sur. It was taken few minutes after sunset when there was still some twilight and stars started to appear in the sky.

Chiswell Islands - Kenai Peninsula, Alaska

Chiswell Islands are a group of rocky, uninhabited islands, accessible only by boat or airplane, within the Kenai Peninsula Borough of Alaska in the Gulf of Alaska.

On our second to last day of our Alaska trip, we decided to take a cruise tour from Seward to Kenai Fjords. If you plan on visiting this part of the world, I would definitely recommed this tour as you get to see a lot of marine life. We sighted whales, orcas, dolphins along with various other things. This picture was taken as our cruise boat entered Aialik Bay. It shows the Chiswell Islands in the background covered in slight mist and fog along with another tour boat.

Mount McKinley - Eielson Visitor Center, Denali National Park, Alaska

Here is a picture of Mount McKinley taken from the Eielson Visitor Center during our trip to Denali National Park last summer. It is the highest mountain in North America and is a sight to behold. This picture was taken using 1/15 sec shutter speed to capture the waving US Flag.

Desert Palms - Anza Borrego Visitor Center - Borrego Springs, CA
